Happy Endings

It is true .. things happen for a reason. Life appears bleak with insurmountable obstacles to overcome and then suddenly a ray of light appears shining through the darkness, lighting the way to a brighter future. An epiphany if you will … opportunities long ignored by risk adverse minds suddenly become the most obvious solution.

They had toyed with the idea of a semi retirement / home business for some time … a chance to slow the pace after years of stressful and thankless roles, lining others’ pockets with their own blood, sweat and tears. And now, if there was going to be any blood, sweat or tears it was time to benefit from it themselves.

While watching a movie she realised the glaring truth. She had come to the conclusion that in life she had skipped the bad bits, glossing over them and shutting herself down, refusing to acknowledge sad news … ignored the dark shadows lurking … wanting always to fast forward and skip past it all to the happy ending she knew was always waiting on the other side.

She felt a strange sense of calm. Being forced into the decision was what they had needed all along and all they had to do now was execute. Some doors close faster and harder than expected and the opening doors too slow. But open they will as is the nature of the universe.  Health and happiness surely after all is so much more important than chasing dollars.

Just like the movies she watched, she was impatient to get through the inevitable dark … the books she read, sneaking a quick peek at the last few pages … wanting to know that whatever happened, however bleak it was, there would be that ray of light piercing through the darkest of clouds …. her enduring optimism promising her that there will always be a happy ending, all they had to do was grab it.
